Made by Aunt Mel!

Aunt Mel made this “slab box” for you in her clay class at school. All four sides have this sweet little owl carved into it. It resides on the shelf in your bedroom 🙂

Remembering when…

Looking back on the plethora of things I said I would never do when I became a mother makes me giggle at how naive I really was.

First, I swore I would NOT be getting an epidural. That they were poison and just garbage. Welp, read back to my first of posts and you will see I certainly succumbed (and no, I do NOT regret it) .

I swore I would never let my child watch tv (sometimes the ONLY scapegoat in this house to get ANYTHING done).

I would not be cloth diapering (and I am now a full fledged hippy doing just that…and cloth wipes/homemade wipe solution and homemade laundry detergent- and the kicker? I do it for the environment’s sake. Now what to do with the over abundant stash of disposables? Outings, I suppose.).

I also turned into what I learned to be a “crunchy mom”, which apparently believing little boys should remain intact, supporting baby led weaning, non-CIO, non-vax and all these all-natural routes have landed me. I’m cool with that and have accepted that I just enjoy researching and learning about all of these things that makes me, what I feel, to be the best mother I can be.

On the other end of crunchiness…I also said I would NEVER EVER NEVER give my baby that rancid, over processed, chemical filled formula. Welp, a few months of no milk supply and a screaming, starving child brought me to a road of goat milk and formula. I would even hate myself every time I filled her bottles with that junk (after I ran out of donor milk)…and now I kind of wonder. I have so many friends who have bf for the longest time, yet their children are always ill. I have to give props to the makers of formula for keeping my baby healthy during the times of the ‘bug’ going around. It could all be coincidence, too. **Fine print: breast is still BEST. For many reasons. I hope I can do it longer with baby #2.

I also said I would not (and I repeat) NOT let a baby change and dictate my life. That lasted me all of a few weeks as Zach & I ushered ourselves into the booth at Applebee’ s for appetizers with friends one late Friday night…..the worst night ever ensued. I changed my tune real quick. It’s a difference between mommy & daddy getting NO sleep and actually getting SOME shut eye. Now, my upper lip begins to sweat when we’re not home in time for her bath and bedtime routine.

I also said I would NEVER feed my baby jarred baby food. Well, a generous friend with an abundance of left overs from WIC loaded us up…and the rest is history.

I’m sure there are so many more that I can’t think of… and also so many more that are bound to come up. Such is life! And I’m learning to accept that sometimes the Super Mom in me just has to take a rest!

One thing I SWORE I *would* do (and have stuck to), is take an abundance of pictures and video. There can never be enough.

To freeze and capture a moment in your lifetime is worth packing the camera around & driving people crazy!

Well, I also said I would run “every day” with you in the jogger. Riiiiight.

Love you for always,
Mama

This month, you learned to fully feed yourself, hold a sippy cup, crawl at a crazy pace, pull yourself up and scoot along down the sides of tables, couches, etc!

You still only have two teeth though 😉

Love you for always,

You’re crawling!

It is absolutely astonishing how quickly you have advanced. You literally went from barely being able to stand without wabbling to crawling. Since this video was taken, you now practically “run” crawl around the house, pull yourself up onto anything and everything, hold on with one hand, and with such grace. You’ll be walking in no time!

Love you for always,

Mama
